As history and mythology Delph are closely intertwined
At first, the delfs were a place of worship of the ancient Greek goddess of the earth – gay. Later, after 1600 g to n. e., The god Apolon decided to establish his oracle in the delfac, broadcasting the words of the priestess Pythia. It was a woman who was always in a state of trance and very often gave very conflicting answers that make me think about their unraveling. However, this mystery every day was attracted by an increasing number of pilgrims who went to the Delphic oracle for help and good advice. It was during this period that the delfs reached the peak of their development – numerous pilgrims sacrificed values and gifts, trying to appease the gods.
The so -called “Pythias” were held in this city – ancient games, which were the second most important after the Olympic. At first, the games included only one type of competition – singing to the accompaniment of Kifara, and then athletic and artistic competitions were added. Pythian games were prohibited in approximately 394 g., When the Roman Emperor Theodosius ordered to close the temple of Apollo in Delphi, banned pagan religion and closed the Delphic oracle.
After the 4th century, the delfs were abandoned until the end of the 19th century, when the first archaeologists appeared here.
