Salaries depend on skills and work experience. If the applicant has never worked on a construction site either in his country or in the USA, then he can count on at least the minimum wage for the state.
But this is for the start. My friend Jerry pays entry-level workers on a construction site in New York $23 per hour. This is his “starting” level. As soon as the worker gains the necessary skills and begins to perform more complex tasks, the salary increases. Jerry’s employees who do light repairs like painting walls receive from $30 per hour or $240 per day.
In-demand professions
Electricians, plumbers, HVAC specialists, concrete specialists, painters and just helpers – everyone is needed. In the USA, there is natural rational competition. Individual specialists and companies as a whole value their reputation, so doing a bad job is simply not profitable for them. If you are a good electrician, you will always have work and money. Jerry told me that running electricity to a four-story commercial building costs about $110,000, and HVAC costs about $600,000. That’s the amount of money companies make for a single project. As an individual, an HVAC technician makes $150 an hour and up. Carpenter salaries start at $32 an hour for entry-level workers. Good, experienced professionals make $60 an hour and up. That kind of income makes you worry about your reputation and not want to quit.
