For the past year and a half, the startup Automatic Construction has been working on an original method that allows you to “inflate” a house and pump concrete into its walls.
According to the company’s estimates, such houses can be built in less than an hour, and they will cost several times less than commercial structures and private houses built using the traditional method.
This is an unusual, but very promising method in the context of the housing crisis. According to UN estimates, by 2030, it will be necessary to build 96 thousand affordable houses per day to accommodate 3 billion people in need of housing.
In an effort to speed up construction and reduce costs, architects and construction companies are using modular buildings, 3D printing, and even robots. For Automatic Construction, the solution was the technology of “inflatable flexible factory formwork.” The company has already applied for a corresponding patent.
