Nicaragua is the state of Central America, bordering in the north with Honduras and in the south with Costa Rick. Nicaragua is the largest in area, but at the same time one of the least populated countries of Central America. In addition to the mainland, the state also includes separate islands (for example. volcanic island of Ometepe) and groups of islands (for example. Islands Mais, Granada and T. D.).
Most of the country is occupied by the Nicaraguan Highlands, and in the west of the country there is a volcanic zone with a large number of existing volcanoes. The Caribbean coast of the country is a mangrove thicket and almost impenetrable jungle.
The capital of Nicaragua – Managua – is located in the west of the country on the shore of the lake of the same name. The population of the city is almost two million people. Other major cities of the country: Esteli, Chinandeg, Leon, Masaya, Granada, Matagalpa, Hinothega and New Guinea. In total, the population of the country is about six million people, a third of which live in the capital.
